MetaX TCG – Batman Preview #3

We’re hitting the run into the full reveal of the new expansion of MetaX, Batman. Today we have a massive reveal of six cards that will get you even more pumped to see the Caped Crusader in action in a little under three weeks time.

Heroes and Villains are today’s theme, and these cards should have your deck brewing juices flowing.

With the introduction of so many new traits, the Heroes and Villains from way back in the Justice League expansion just didn’t feel like they were getting the love they need. But that is changing in a huge way.

Kicking off with this very tasty 7 Strength battle card, you will see that Hero stamped cards get a little boost to the “healing” archetype in Batman.

At a low MP cost, you could team this nicely with characters like Superman – Last Son of Krypton, and other healing battle cards like the 2 Strength C35-JL.

If you liked the “all-in” feel of cards like Retreat from Attack on Titan, then you’ll love Heroic Charge.

It’s a great event that can see play in aggro, or Team Attack decks to give you that extra edge. It could definitely give a boost to Nightwing focused Team Attack decks. Or team it with a mix of push effect heroes like Green Lantern – Hal Jordan to fill your hand even more and get yourself ready for your defending turn.

And don’t think that Villain’s aren’t getting some love this set.

You have to love the art on this 4 Strength battle card, but that just slightly distracts you from the amazing effect that it holds.

Team this card up with the likes of General Zod and Power Players, and you quickly bring about some heavy lock on your opponent’s effects.

Gifts, while not being a stamped card, is definitely an awesome effect to ponder in any deck. While there is a delay on the draw effect, you could pair this nicely with effects that require you to have a certain number of cards in hand during a turn.

You can also team this nicely with some battle cards and event cards that put targeted cards back on top of your deck to give you a nice refresh of your hand before defending again.

But the bottom of the deck can be just as important as well, so this 7 Special works in quitely nicely when you team in up with some of the Bat Family effects, or even some of the bottom of the deck effects from Green Lantern and Attack on Titan.

At a cost of just 2 MP as well, you could see this fitting nicely into any deck that runs more than one rank 7 Special characters.

And to round off today’s previews, another 7 Special but this one actually nets you 2 MP instead! That’s value unheard of up until now on rank 7 battle cards.

Sure there are some pretty nasty rank 7 Special battle cards out there to fill those potential three spots at that rank and type, but if you have some other pricey cards to pay MP for you might just find a nice place for this card.

Our final previews in a couple of days time will feature the weird and wonderful effects from the new Arkham Inmate trait. This trait takes a little time and patience to build around but it can be a very fun archetype to run with.

MetaX TCG: Batman Preview #2

We’re deep into spoiler season now, with lots of amazing new cards being added to the card pool. The Rogues are our most recent Panini Games blog feature so we’ll share some of the cards in our selection that would pair nicely with this new archetype.

Like we saw with Blue Lantern’s in set 2, Rogues have an affinity for basic battle cards, but sometimes its a little hard to give up a nice effect on a battle card to be replaced by something bland that might not even fit your MP curve. Hand to Hand answers this nicely.

At a low MP cost, you can go for full value on all the characters previewed, and get a little more out of your basic battle card effects.

Not to mention it has amazing art.

This 4 Intelligence Battle Card can also set you up nicely to get the maximum value on your Rogues Gallery characters. Team it with Hand to Hand, and you’ve got easy access to any battle card in your discard pile to set up your next attacking turn.

Sometimes basic battle card builds can feel a little light on for MP generation, so this 1 Strength Battle Card offers some of the best one card MP gain we’ve seen on a battle card.

While you might be giving up a little with giving your opponent an extra card in hand, and the low rank, this may fit nicely into mill decks. That archetype is getting a nice little boost this set as well, so keep an eye out for this battle card to help potentially fuel some of those nasty mill effects.

Not to be outdone, this next battle card will net you the same amount of MP upon use, but the catch being that you need to use it on defense to get the full potential of the card.

So with those two cards, you can get some solid MP generation that your deck might be lacking.

The pace won’t stop with these previews so check back in a couple of days when we add some spoilers for the Arkham Inmates.

MetaX TCG – Batman Preview #1

Oh boy, oh boy! Spoiler season has started again, and this time its the Dark Knight and the rest of Gotham’s fabled heroes and villians to bring their flavour to the game. We have a total of 19 previews to bring you over the next two weeks before the full set reveal before release at the end of June.

First up, we have a look at some cards that fit nicely with the Bat Family reveals on the Panini Games blog earlier this week.

This amazing 6 Intelligence Battle Card starts things off nicely to fit in with some of the strategies we’ve seen around manipulating the top or bottom of a players deck.

Being a defensive card, this can help nicely as you could set up a few things like draw effects from other battle cards played after this card, potential VP you have to take from successful attacks after this defense, or setting up your next draw phase for a handy card to swing the game your way.

You’re also able to send those cards to the bottom of your deck, which could mitigate bad draws if those 5 cards weren’t to your taste, or set up for cards that like to draw from the bottom of your deck.

Surprise Visit then gives you a new way to gain knowledge of your opponent’s hand, and giving a different extra effect than the similar Set 1 card, Echolocation.

If you have set up your deck for draws with some of the Bat Family effects, you’re probably more interested in a +1 in hand than denying your opponent a card in hand. And at -1 MP, the cost is a lot more efficient than Echolocation as well.

Value for effect on events is certainly a feature of this new set, and Entangled is no exception. The low MP cost is offset by having to push your own character to target your opponent for a pushed character as well, but there are certainly lots of ways to play around that for your advantage.

Some of the Green Lantern cards can help you prep the character again during your Planning step. You also have options from Attack on Titan for some of the Scout Regiment cards, or Battle Cards to prep the characters again for use later on.

So if your opponent gets too aggressive with their attack phase and leave only one defender open, this card could come well and truly in handy.

And we round out today’s previews with a powerful new rare event.

Death in the Family can help with your character management at the right times to help free up space on your board, and potentially net you between 4 to 7 extra MP as well. That is fantastic value in any ones book. If you’re teaming this with meaty events like those you need in Titan decks, you can get your tempo going with more consistency with this sweet event.

We’ll be back in a few days with four more previews to get you pumped for Batman, releasing late June!

MetaX TCG – Card of the Week – March 23rd

Today’s card comes from the first MetaX set, Justice League, but it could definitely have some great combos with cards in the upcoming Attack On Titan set.

Immediately, you can look at this card and set that it can have a great spot in aggro decks. By maxing out on your characters attacking that turn, you potentially put your opponent into a choice of giving you between 3 and 6 new cards to draw into. Over the course of those few turns that pressure could definitely build up for you to swing ahead on your VP count.

There is a huge risk and reward for the card, but at a cost of 4 MP to draw an amazing amount of cards, you can definitely try and plan ahead to ensure that you have a higher percentage of converting it into advantage over your opponent.

But there are some great new cards in Attack On Titan that could help bring this card into more tempo type builds.

When paired with the Scout Regiment, and their stamped event Retreat”, you can mitigate the risk on your next defensive phase by having your characters Prep at the end of the turn and then not have to play a battle card to defend. The cost of this combination is quite high, with both events costing 4 MP. But Scout Regiment can generate this quite easily with characters like Bertholdt Hoover.

You could then force your opponent into choosing to give you those extra cards to draw, or 3 potential VP. Even if they press the next turn and attack, knocking out some of your characters, you’ve just drawn into plenty of cards to then start filling up your board again over the next few turns,

Make sure you look back over some of the cards from previous sets to make sure you get the most out of your new decks featuring Attack On Titan cards.

MetaX TCG – Attack On Titan Preview #4

This is our final spoiler preview for Attack On Titan before release late next week. It’s definitely starting to get exciting to see how many people are looking forward to the first set to showcase the crossover nature of the MetaX engine. Some of the decks that we’ll see moving forward will be very interesting, and I think it’s easy to say they will be quite varied as well.

The last trait to be revealed this week with the Panini Games blog will be the Cadet Corp. These characters work great in tandem with some Scout Regiment characters.

Being able to pick out what you need from your deck and have specific cards where you need them are some of the best support Cadet Corp brings, and this stamped Event is no exception.

Training is a super low cost for bringing out any battle card you need from your deck, so if you have flooded your board with characters that turn you could grab Special 4 C49-JL to allow them to attack that turn.

Or, you could be bringing out this sweet addition to Team Attack focused decks.

While only being a rank of 4, this card gives you both perfect knowledge of your opponent’s hand, but also replaces itself and gains you MP. So you could be looking to team this with a high ranked Strength character to push up towards a total of 10 or 11 to make it harder to block.

Having knowledge of your opponent’s hand can also help you work out either how you are going to defend next turn, or help you push for an extra attack that turn to push your advantage.

Another card you could search for could be this Strength 6 battle card. With more shield effects creeping in, and pesky cards like Special 1 C34-JL from previous sets still hanging round, negating shield effects gives your aggro decks a little more room to move.

Being a no cost battle card, it can also fit well into Titan decks that are running low on MP generation. This is definitely another great battle card that could lead your attacking phase.

That wraps up our Attack On Titan previews. Make sure you look for the new set in your LGS from late next week.
